Anybody who is a fan of Canon dSLR cameras has probably heard of the Canon 50mm f/1.8 II – the Nifty Fifty.  This little lens takes great pictures and it’s cheap – it’s can often be found for less than $90.

Unfortunately, mine is no longer all that nifty.  Yesterday the front focusing ring and lens element popped off.

Not so nifty

I had it repaired earlier this year because the focusing ring stuck. That repair was was warrantied for six month so hopefully this similar focusing ring problem will be covered. If it’s not I’ve already ordered the Canon 50mm f/1.4 as a replacement. If the f/1.8 gets fixed then it will be a good back-up lens. If it doesn’t – no big loss. It’s paid for itself several times over this past year.  In fact, it’s paid for itself and the lens I’m upgrading to.
